AYSO Cypress Region 154 Working with Local Business
Dr. Dora Lee, a pediatric dentist in Los Alamitos, while pursuing her MPH (Masters of Public Health) had the opportunity to send donated items to FUDEM, a charity vision center through the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Dr. Lee was expecting to hand out toothbrushes to the children but to her overwhelming surprise, children in San Salvador requested soccer jerseys to wear for their favorite sport. Dr. Lee reached out to the AYSO Region 154 Cypress Board where she had previously sponsored a team and spoke with Mary Kamhi, Sponsor Coordinator for the region and asked if they had any used soccer jerseys to donate. Mary sent emails to all the coaches and families in the region asking to donate any new or used soccer jerseys they no longer needed. The region also had new uniform sets (socks, shorts, jerseys) to donate as well. Through the help of Mary Kamhi, Cypress AYSO generously donated hundreds of new and used soccer jerseys and full uniforms. Dr. Lee, the UCLA School of Public Health MPH program, and FUDEM gratefully thank the organization and Mary Kamhi for their generous efforts.
It is very satisfying to know the uniforms will be put to good use and to see the looks of delight on the children’s faces in San Salvador.
